Leading Volunteers? Resist Doing All of the Work!

There are challenges and joys to being a leader in a group or organization that is composed mainly of volunteers. In this workshop, we will work together to tackle a variety of questions, such as: How does a leader cultivate a shared sense of purpose among volunteers? Where is the leader’s influence, without clear authority within the role? How does a leader increase a sense of ownership and responsibility within the group? What are some specific ways to forge ahead to get the work done, when people get off track and would rather be critics than worker bees? We will also reflect on the issue of trust – how is it cultivated, what increases, and what decreases trust within a group or organization. Come prepared to network and share with others. Bring your questions, examples, ideas, and stories. Take time to invest in and affirm your leadership effectiveness. All welcome.
