Generation Ratify Amherst invites the community to an interactive, multigenerational discussion and crash course on the Equal Rights Amendment, from its founding in 1923 to its current work in 2022. Generation Ratify Amherst is the local chapter of a national, youth-led organization working towards the enactment of the Equal Rights Amendment into the Constitution and strives for intersectional legal gender equality for all. Generation Ratify National (generationratify.org) was founded in 2019 by Virginia high schoolers looking to ratify the ERA in their state. Since then, it has spread to 50+ chapters across the country, including Generation Ratify Amherst, founded in May of 2020 by Marisol Pierce Bonifaz. We have organized banner drops, town halls, a lobbying campaign, a yoga class, a rally, and have conducted several interviews. This five-section class will cover everything from the start of the ERA to important historical figures, to how members of the community can get personally involved. We will center our discussions and activities around each student's pre-existing knowledge, and explore how to strive for intersectional gender equality. The class will include opportunities for students to interact with the material.
