Expanding Abortion and Contraception Access under Trump
In June 2022, the Supreme Court ruling for Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization officially overturned years of abortion access. Trigger laws in states across the nation took immediate effect as hospital workers and pregnant people scrambled to understand the quickly shifting nature of abortion access in the United States. As we enter another Trump presidency, we must continue to try and understand how anti-choice and anti-contraceptive legislation will affect the most vulnerable populations and what we can do in protected states to help. In the class, we will briefly go over the history of reproductive health access- including abortion and contraception, and talk about the ramifications of anti-choice legislation, what is possible, and what states like Massachusetts are doing to protect not only the people living here but also people who may seek haven in an abortion safe state. Come prepared to help create a dialogue not of despair but of hope for a future where abortion is readily available and safe.
